Bio

Dr. Aaron Masino is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and serves on the leadership committee of the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. His research interests include application of machine learning methods for scientific discovery and clinical decision support, and methodological development to support trust and operationalization of machine learning models. His most recent research includes machine learning model development for sepsis prediction, utilization of wearable device data to recognize stress in individuals with Autism, natural language processing applications for information extraction from clinical text, and deep learning methods to detect latent concepts in EHR data. Previously, Dr. Masino served as a senior scientist at MZA Associates Corporation where he developed adaptive optics control algorithms, and in the U.S. Air Force where he was a launch crew commander for the Delta rocket program. He received his PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Central Florida. He also holds a master's in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado and a bachelor's in mathematics from Rutgers University.
