Abstract: Managing implementation risk is an important process to ensure successful implementation of healthcare information systems. In this research, the investigators study how health technology project managers successfully implement health information technologies. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 15 project managers or individuals who were part of a project management team. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. Study participants employed cognitive-sociotechnical approaches to enhance the likelihood of project implementation success. These approaches included clinician enagement, workflow modelling and usability testing as well as as other strategies. The research fills an important gap - that of identifying what project managers have noted as contributing to successful health technology implementations.

After attending my session attendees will be able to:
- identify the key factors that lead to successful clinical health technology implementation,
- describe those strategies and approaches that lead successful health technology implementation in clinical settings,
- manage health technology projects using best practices that enhance the likelihood of success of a health technology implementation.
