Description

Abstract: Medication adherence is a major problem in oncology clinical care, especially regarding hormonal therapies for breast cancer (BrCa) in African American women. A software application prototype was developed to address medication adherence for this specific cultural and clinical context. Software applications designed for adherence to medications may have greater efficacy when considerations are made to the specific clinical and cultural context to which patients identify.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees will learn about principles of cultural sensitivity useful in the design of medication adherence and intervention applications that may have an important impact on acceptance and use of such applications and lead to positive clinical outcomes. This research explores the cultural components specific to the African American context that enhances estrogen positive hormonal therapy intervention outcomes by increasing technology mediated patient engagement and patient motivation for hormonal therapy adherence.
