Description
Abstract: Clinician-patient communication about goals of care is critical for ensuring that patients with serious illness receive goal-concordant care. Unfortunately, patients with advanced cancer report feeling unprepared for goals-of-care discussions in the hospital. Using user-centered design, we developed an interactive guide to help prepare hospitalized patients with advanced cancer for these discussions. Incorporating diverse stakeholders in the design of interventions in the context of serious illness is feasible and beneficial.
Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: The attendee will be able to identify key informational elements and delivery methods that should be used to prepare hospitalized patients with cancer to discuss goals of their care with their clinician.
