Description

Abstract: ConnectMyVariant applies a unique combination of genealogy, direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic testing, and social networking to the context of cascade screening for hereditary cancers through an educational website with information and resources to connect with others who share the same pathogenic variant. This poster describes the content development and preliminary usability assessment, conducted with potential users using semi-structured interviews with a think-aloud protocol. The interviews analyzed using an inductive qualitative analysis method.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: The attendee will be able to elucidate challenges in family communication about pathogenic variants and ways of addressing these challenges. They will also be able to describe ways that genealogy, direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic testing, and social networking tools might be used to facilitate cascade screening of hereditary cancers.
