Abstract: Clinicians are encouraged to follow guidelines when prescribing opioids in the United States and required to follow specific rules or regulations in some states. Encoding as computable logic supports the creation of computerized decision support tools. We compared Washington state rules with the CDC Guidelines, which have already been expressed in CQL. Differences between the WA rules and the CDC guidelines were made explicit by our efforts to author CQL to express the WA rules.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Attendees will learn a strategy for determining the difference between state and federal opioid prescription recommendations or regulations using CQL authoring. The resultant CQL can be used both to identify specific differences, and to create locally-relevant clinical decision support tools.
