S13: Panel - So You Want to be a Clinical Informatician?

1:00 PM–2:00 PM May 20, 2020 (Conference Time: US - Pacific)

1:00 PM–2:00 PM May 20, 2020

Description

Wondering what it’s really like to be a clinical informatician? Thinking about how to equip yourself for the exciting world of informatics? What do the titles and contracts, the job descriptions and those 'duties as assigned' really mean? Attendees will have the chance to hear real-life reflections from a group of clinical informatics panelists representing a wide range of backgrounds. Bringing the perspectives of early career champions, CMIOs, public health informatics leaders and others, panelists will share what experiences shaped their informatics acumen and their leadership. Panelists will answer questions about the traditional and non-traditional ways to grow knowledge, the challenges of balancing clinical and informatics time, and tips for mentoring and peer support for professional growth. Attendees will have a chance to hear what panelists think are the ‘must-have’ tools for a career in clinical informatics – from professional societies and apprenticeships, what exactly is ‘protected time’, and how clinical informaticians will continue to evolve to be the influences and leaders shaping the future of health care.
