Description

Abstract: Nurse-provider communication is an important aspect of patient care in the Emergency Department. Electronic nursing documentation (structured and unstructured) of provider awareness of a change in patient status can be documented as the coded language “MD aware”. This research extracted approximately 4% of notes containing the term “MD aware”. Further research work is needed to validate this frequency across nursing documentation and its potential utility to identify inflection points in patient care.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: After attendance of this session, the attendee will have a basic understanding of the coded language (“MD AWARE”) found in Emergency Department (ED) nursing notes in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and the frequency with which this term (and related terms) occurs.
