Description

Abstract: Recent ACC/AHA guidelines recommend discontinuing low-dose aspirin for ASCVD primary prevention for people over age 70. The number of people who meet the criteria is unknown. Data analysis performed at West Haven VA revealed 31,119 veterans over age 70, 11,640 (37.4%) on aspirin of which 3,970 (12.8% of total) meet criteria for aspirin deprescribing. Opportunities exist to perform clinical decision support and shared decision-making with this population.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: Participants will learn the scope of patients who meet the guidelines for potential low-dose aspirin de-prescribing in the Connecticut VA hospital system and understand the guideline limitations that pose implementation barriers.
