Description

Abstract: Clinician burnout is a problem for many healthcare organizations and has been linked to lower quality patient care. Clinical decision support, which is often implemented in an attempt to better support clinical decision-making, has been cited as a factor that can increase burnout. This presentation will describe the principles of computational ethnography and how it can be used to provide insights into the complex socio-technical relationship between the user and electronic health record.

Describe the new knowledge and additional skills the participant will gain after attending your presentation.: After attending our presentation, audience members will be able to: (1) understand how computational ethnography can be a valuable tool for assessing the impact of clinical decision support systems; and (2) identify methods to integrate EHR log data into clinical decision support system monitoring.
