10:45 AM–11:45 AM May 21, 2020 (Conference Time: US - Pacific)

10:45 AM–11:45 AM May 21, 2020

Description

In celebration of the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, widely acknowledged as the founder of modern nursing, the World Health Organization declared 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. Nursing informatics is a key component of the broader field of biomedical and health informatics and the Nursing Informatics Working Group (NIWG) is a large and vibrant working group within the AMIA community. This panel will highlight recent contributions in JAMIA by and about nursing and describe JAMIA’s Virtual Nursing Collection which was launched in conjunction with our May issue. Suzanne Bakken, a nurse and JAMIA’s Editor-in-Chief will provide an overview and moderate the panel. Two authors will describe their contributions in the May Issue: Ruth Masterson Creber - “Visual analogies, not graphs, increase patients’ comprehension of changes in their health status” and Clare Tolley – “A systematic review of the impact of health information technology on nurses’ time." Gregory Alexander, Chair, NIWG, will summarize the process of creating and the content of the curated Virtual Nursing Collection.
